Gazi Ercel was Governor of the Central Bank of Turkey from 1996-2001.   In 2003 he established the financial advisory firm, Ercel Global Advisory.

Earlier in his career he was Deputy Director General of the Turkish Treasury, in charge of Foreign Exchange, Banking Supervision, the World Bank and the Research Departments.  He was then appointed Director General of the Turkish Treasury in charge of International Economic Development in 1987.

Ercel was the winner of Euromoney Magazine’s Central Banker of the Year Award in 2000 and Top Central Banker, Global Finance Magazine in 1999 and 2000.

Ercel has taught at various universities on international financial markets, banking, macro economy and public governance.  He holds an undergraduate degree from Ankara University’s Faculty of Political Science and received a Masters Degree in International Economics from Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tennessee.
