Sébastien Foucan is the founder and creator of freerunning, the art of expressing oneself in one’s environment, without the limitation of movement. He is renowned for his views on the philosophy behind freerunning, and is an ambassador for the martial discipline in many countries across the globe.

During his childhood in the 1980’s, Foucan and his friends developed an obstacle led style of play which they named ‘parkour’ after the military training, ‘parcours du combattant’. After leaving school, he went into military service as a fire fighter in Paris, during which time he continued to develop his ‘parkour’ skills. He later developed a more inclusive form of parkour, which he termed as ‘freerunning’, with more acrobatic-like movements added. In 2001, Foucan choreographed, managed and performed his first freerunning show in Frankfurt, Germany.

He came to prominence in the UK after the showing of the Channel 4 documentary, ‘Jump London’ in 2003, and in 2005 ‘Jump Britain’. Foucan appeared in the music video for Madonna’s 2005 single, ‘Jump’, and went on to accompany Madonna on her 2006 ‘Confessions Tour’. It was also in 2006 that he made his acting debut, starring as Mollaka in the 21st James Bond film ‘Casino Royale’. Following the success of the film, Foucan went on to star in ‘The Tournament’ (2009), playing the role of assassin Anton Bogart.

Throughout his career, he has been highly sought after for product promotion and endorsements, and has been sponsored by sports companies, such as Nike and Fila. He has starred in commercials for Nike and Toyota, and helped K-Swiss to launch the Ariake, the first freerunning and parkour shoe in a line of 5 models. BET Networks, the leading provider of entertainment content, also used him in their 2008 ‘Follow the Leader’ ad campaign.
